ROT in the Land of the Rising Sun: Log Horizon

A mega-popular online RPG is launched but - TWIST - everyone playing finds themselves trapped in the game world for real! Why are they trapped? Who's responsible? Can they escape? Who cares? Yup, Log Horizon treads the exceedingly well-worn path laid down by .hack, BTOOOM!, Sword Art Online and more. Now, anime is an inspirationally incestuous industry at the best of times, and very few titles are truly original, but would it have hurt the creators to at least try to do something slightly new with the formula? This feels like a pick 'n' mix of all those other shows, just executed without any of their positive elements. And as for the cast? In the time between watching the episodes and writing this, we've forgotten every single one of them. Log Horizon is a cheap attempt at jumping onto a bandwagon that's already broken down - never before has a genre burned itself out so quickly.
