Disk Wars

Marvel Comics and Japan have been linked for decades. Spider-Man had a live action tokusatsu series in the '70s, and more recently, Madhouse produced four Marvel anime series. This 'Japanification' of heroes isn't new - but nothing has been as unusual as Disk Wars: The Avengers!

Akira Akatsuki's father has helped Iron Man develop the Digital Identity Securement Kit, a way to contain supervillains in convenient chips. Of course, when this promising technology is revealed to the public, the god of mischief, Loki, crashes the party, corrupting the tech and trapping the good guys inside. Now, Akira, along with his brother Hikaru and new friends Edward, Chris and Jessica, are the only ones with the ability to unlock the heroes, summoning them from their DISKs to take down the villains.

Yep, the Avengers are now basically Pokémon. Developed primarily as a tie-in for a line of Bachicombat toys from Bandai, it's not as cringingly commercial as it sounds, but it is strange - Hulk has spiky Vegeta hair, for one. Don't expect to see this come to the UK!
