Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Part legend, part fact, all drama, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms has been inspiring authors from China and the east for centuries. Named as one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, along with Water Margin, Journey to the West and Dream of the Read Chamber, its influence on eastern culture cannot be overstated. Ikki Tousen is just one of many media works to base its story on the characters from the tale - other examples include the 2012 Chow Yun-fat movie The Assassins, Andy Lau's Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon from 2008, SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors from 2010 - itself an adaptation of a series of Gundam model kits - and games including Dynasty Warriors and Dynasty Wars. In 2007, there was even a boys' love series produced based on the characters, called Kotetsu Sangokushi.
