Humanity Has Declined

Fairies, sweets – and crushing cynicism. Don’t think that because Humanity Has Declined has a cute aesthetic that it’s a cheery comedy or cute fantasy anime. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where people struggle to survive, the show follows a nameless heroine serving as ambassador to Earth’s new dominant species: 10cm tall sugar-junkie “fairies” with technology so advanced it may as well be magic. Her challenges to meet the whims of these capricious creatures involve suspicious fairy factories, chain-smoking chicken corpses bent on world domination, and fairies obsessed with yaoi doujin – all while dryly observing the futility of existence! Wrapping smart criticism of humanity’s worst traits in a bizarre shell, this promises to be among 2016’s sharpest series. Animatsu releases the complete series on Blu-ray and DVD in April.
