Ping Pong: The Animation

Combine a cult hit manga with one of anime’s most ground-breaking and idiosyncratic directors, and you get... Ping Pong? Don’t write this one off on its premise alone though, as Masaaki Yuasa’s adaptation of Taiyo Matsumoto’s unique sports series is a high point of animation. The show follows brash, outgoing Peco and taciturn, focused Smile, friends for life despite their disparate personalities, as they battle through the harsh world of competitive table tennis. Friendly rivalries turn serious though, when Peco is roundly defeated by Kong Wenge, an exchange student and disgraced member of China’s national ping pong team. But quiet Peco may have the hidden skills to beat the newcomer... Anime Limited kicks off 2016 with this tour de force of exceptional animation, launching in a collector’s edition DVD / Blu-ray pack.
