From Up On Poppy Hill Coming To Cinemas This Summer

According to Anime News Network, Studio Canal is planning to release Goro Miyazaki's From Up On Poppy Hill this summer.

The distributor is provisionally aiming to open the movie theatrically in July, although the date is subject to change.

The English language voice cast includes Sarah Bolger, Anton Yelchin, Gillian Anderson, Beau Bridges, Bruce Dern and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Breaking away from the fantasy of his directorial debut, Tales From Earthsea, Goro Miyazaki's second film is a slice-of-life drama set in Yokohama in 1963.

In other Studio Ghibli related news, Studio Canal will be releasing the wonderful Kiki's Delivery Service, directed by Goro's famous father Hayao Miyazaki, in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on 27 May.

The story follows a young witch leaving home for the first time accompanied only by her cat as she sets out to find her place in the world.

Isao Takahata's Grave Of The Fireflies, a harrowing story about two children struggling to survive in Japan at the end of World War II, will also receive the Blu-ray/DVD treatment.

The film is tentatively set for 27 May alongside Kiki but may be moved back.
