Manga Announcements from MCM Birmingham Comic Con

Manga Entertainment used the occasion of the MCM Birmingham Comic Con on Saturday 16 March 2013 to reveal some new acquisitions and details of upcoming titles.

The distributor has picked up the rights to Appleseed XIII, a CG series directed by Takayuki Hamana composed of 13 episodes and two movies.

Here's Production IG's official summary of the show:

"Based on the original graphic novel Appleseed created by Shirow Masamune (Ghost in the Shell, Vexille), the story follows the exploits of the ES.W.A.T. special forces member Deunan Knute and her combat cyborg colleague Briareos at the city of Olympus after World War V. Though keeping Shirow's story setting and characters, Appleseed XIII features a completely original story plot, supervised by Shirow and written by Junichi Fujisaku, one of the main scriptwriters in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex."

Manga also revealed that they have picked up the highly anticipated second series of Fairy Tail which will hopefully be released over here before the end of the year, along with the Fairy Tail movie.

Manga used the occasion to reveal more release date info for several titles previously announced:

Deadman Wonderland will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on 1 July 2013.

Jormungand should be out this summer.

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II: The Battle For Doldrey should be out in October.

Hellsing Ultimate episodes 5-8 will be released with a subtitles-only OVA.

Manga is in dicussions with Toei with a view to acquiring the movie spin-offs from Dragon Ball Z and One Piece.
