The Wind Rises

Studio Ghibli's creative mastermind Hayao Miyazaki has teased fans in the past with rumours of his retirement from filmmaking, but it appears that The Wind Rises will be the great animator's last outing in the director's chair.

The film is a biography of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the Zero Fighter plane which was employed by the Japanese navy during World War II. Miyazaki's movie follows Horikoshi from his childhood dreaming of flight through his studies at university, to joining the Mitsubishi Internal Combustion Engine Company Limited where he strove tirelessly to design an aircraft that could complete in the skies against anything built by the western powers. The Wind Rises is due out on Blu-ray and DVD from StudioCanal later this year.
