Terror in Resonance

It’s already one of the hits of 2014, but next autumn, Anime Limited brings you the ultimate experience in terror – or at least terrorism – with the Blu-ray and DVD release of Terror in Resonance, aka Zankyou no Terror. The latest collaboration between director Shinichiro Watanabe and composer Yoko Kanno – the duo responsible for undisputed hits Cowboy Bebop and Kids on the Slope – the series follows a group of teenagers raining destruction down on an unsuspecting Japan. Two boys, known as Nine and Twelve, are the terrorist organisation Sphinx. Teasing the authorities with YouTube videos hinting at their targets, they successfully attack a series of government buildings in Tokyo. Their motivations a secret, they also infiltrate a high school under the pseudonyms Arata Kokonoe and Touji Hisami.

Despite their meticulous planning, they can’t account for everything, and when the emotionally fragile Lisa Mishima is caught in their first major attack, they offer her a choice: join them in Sphinx, or die in the attack. Little does she know she’ll be getting into a cat-and-mouse game involving the idiosyncratic detective Kenjiro Shibazaki, pursuing the boys while battling demons of his own.

A dark, modern thriller that asks audiences to sympathise with terrorists, Terror in Resonance is set to be one of 2015’s unquestioned high points.
