Miss Hokusai

Few artists have produced works as emblematic of Japan as Katsushika Hokusai, the woodblock print artist who created the iconic The Great Wave Of Kanagawa. Far less well known is the enormous contribution of Hokusai’s daughter O-ei. Keiichi Hara’s feature Miss Hokusai aims to put that right. O-ei not only assisted her father in his work, but even painted in his place uncredited. Hara’s film is based on Hinako Sugiura’s manga, and will arrive in the UK later this year from Anime Ltd.
