Bakuman Anime Coming To The UK

VIZ Media Europe has announced the acquisition of the anime adaptation of Bakuman for Europe and the UK.

The Bakuman manga is the work of Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba, creators of Death Note and follows two high school boys as they strive to fulfill their dream of becoming professional manga creators.

The anime is directed by Kenichi Kasai, who previously worked on Honey and Clover and Noriaki Akitaya, whose credits include Code Geass.

Two seasons of the anime have been broadcast in Japan and a third is already planned. The manga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump and marked a change in direction for the two creators, moving away from the supernatural elements and detective thrills of Death Note and instead offering a slice of life story without any Death Gods or lethal notebooks in sight.

Kaze UK will be handling the physical release (meaning DVDs and Blu-rays) but there has been no indication yet of any potential release date nor of how many volumes the series will be released over.
