Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, Complete Season 2

Code Geass: in short, if you've not seen it yet, you're missing out. Revolutionary leader Lelouch's mecha-powered campaign to liberate Japan from the shackles of an aristocratic Britannian Empire - while dealing with his own familial ties to it - is simply one of the best series from Japan in years. This second season sees Lelouch spinning a web of fragile political alliances; his dangerous game risking all involved as he enacts a deadly finale.

Chances are you know all this already, though. We awarded the previous DVD release four-stars in our review in NEO 94, and this new release from Kaze only improves on it. What we're really looking at here is the quality of the Blu-ray release. In short again, it's pretty great.

Despite cramming 12 plus episodes onto each disc, the video quality is outstanding; surprisingly so. Episodes are sharp, crisp and clear, with bold colours and no artifacting or similar video issues we could discern. Similarly, the audio sounds fantastic, both language tracks ringing clear. In fact, our only real gripe is Kaze's frustrating habit of front-loading trailers - a practice that should have died out around five minutes after DVD was invented.

All told though, an outstanding Blu-ray release for a phenomenal series. Heartily recommended.

This is a practically perfect release of Code Geass, the overall high quality earning it an extra star for that coveted perfect score. Unmissable mecha action.
SCORE: 5/5
