Naruto Shippuden Part 05

Tying up the seemingly hopeless conflict against Sasuke and Orochimaru that the previous set ended on, the latest batch of Naruto Shippuden episodes offers something of a new direction for the ongoing series. Naruto, stunned by Sasuke's new power, is offered a new training regime by Kakashi, one that will create an all-new jutsu that's uniquely his own. Meanwhile, Team Kakashi's newest member, Sai, attempts to settle in with his new comrades - but his sheltered upbringing and lack of social graces leads to some amusing faux pas.

While it's still refreshing to have some more direction back to the show, especially after all that horrible filler that ended the original Naruto series, Shippuden does feel like it's slipping back into all of its old bad habits again. The episodes here are very formulaic - mysterious subplot, enemies appear, fight to a standstill, win/lose/escape, repeat - and the 'shocking' reveals about certain characters are even more glaringly obvious than an orange ninja in a green forest. Despite Naruto's new quest for his next power up, it still has an air of 'been there, done that'.
The far into the show, there aren't really going to be any newcomers, so if you've been enjoying it this far, you'll love this latest batch.

Another hearty Naruto outing, but nothing to get excited over except for the most hardcore fans.
