Deadman Wonderland: Vol. 1

Find out where it all began in Deadman Wonderland, the original manga that spawned the anime series, released in the UK by Manga Entertainment. Originally licensed by TOKYOPOP, Deadman Wonderland was stuck in hiatus after the company shut down operations in 2011. Now resurrected by VIZ Media, fans again have the chance to follow the story in its original manga format.

The story is set ten years after the Great Tokyo Earthquake in the only publicly operated prison in Japan, Deadman Wonderland, now a tourist attraction filled with the scum of society. And also Ganta, a middle school student wrongly accused of murdering his entire class. Now he struggles to survive in the literally cut-throat environment of the prison, a place where you have to choose your friends, and your enemies, wisely. One of his allies is Shiro, a mysterious girl with a child-like personality - but there's more to her than meets the eye. How long can Ganta last in a place that's actively trying to kill him - and will he ever get justice for his murdered friends, cruelly dispatched by the mysterious red man?

Gory, dark, and almost certainly completely bonkers, Deadman Wonderland is just as good in manga format as it is in animated form!

A rip-roaring adventure series with a dark and thrilling edge.
SCORE: 4/5
