Bleach 13:2

Containing episodes 279 to 291 of Bleach, and the beginning of the end of the Arrancar arc, these discs represent high stakes indeed for the Soul Reaper crew, who have to ally themselves to the Visoreds to stand any chance against their foes – an uneasy union at best. Expect dramatic flashbacks, deaths aplenty, and a literal case of being stabbed in the back before the dust all settles.

There’s little time to draw a breath here in this episodes, although the inclusion of a side story set in a parallel world based on Aladdin and the Magic Lamp could be a welcome distraction, depending on your tolerance for ‘and it was all a dream’ type scenarios.

As usual, Bleach proves itself to be a high calibre, high stakes shonen show, carefully crafting scenes of searing action over the top of layer upon layer of characterisation. From heroes to villains, the main characters are all three dimensional and believable, making for some fierce and blistering set pieces.

With plenty more episodes yet to come before the start of the next massive story arc, it’s safe to say there will be little in the way of solid resolutions for the crew here, but if you’ve made it this far, there’s no way you should miss out on this solid instalment of a cracking show.

Another epic instalment of Bleach, and a series of high stakes showdowns.
SCORE: 4/5
