ANIME & MANGA - Review

Gyo Deluxe

There’s one name that dominates the horror manga scene in Japan, and that’s Junji Ito. Author of Uzumaki, the tale of a town obsessed with spirals, Ito here turns his attention to an unspeakable horror that crawls from the ocean’s depths. Ito is a true master of the nightmare come to life, as just like your average nightmare, if you try to explain the story to anyone who hasn’t experienced it, it just sounds ridiculous. Here, he weaves a captivatingly creepy story of a horde of fish on legs who wade onto shore accompanied by an incredible stench of death. Sounds ridiculous, but Ito’s skill is such that he can masterfully generate chills even with this unlikely concept. This luxury hardback edition of the tale also comes complete with two short stories – The Sad Tale of the Principal Post and The Enigma of Amigara Fault.

Grotesque imagery and freakish concepts collide in this tale spun by a master of horror.
