Inuyashiki

A faceless salaryman with an uncaring family gets given a terminal diagnosis by his doctor. The only person who will mourn his death is his dog – who will doubtless be returned to the pound by his wife and kids once he’s died. Stricken by his newfound sense of mortality and uncertainty, the salaryman – Inuyashiki Ichiro – goes for a walk, and is struck by a mysterious ray of light. Waking the following day with no real idea of what happened, he returns to the doctor to find his body has been strangely altered. Returning home, he discovers his body has been replaced with robotic parts – and uncovers the strange truth that he is now powerful beyond his wildest dreams. Ever the underdog himself, he decides to use his powers for justice. However, there was another struck by the mysterious force that night, and he is far from altruistic…

A roaring start to what looks to be a thoughtful and thrilling sci-fi tale from the author of Gantz.
