The Last Kung Fu Monk

Zhang Li Peng writes, directs and stars in The Last Kung Fu Monk, the story of Li Long, a Shaolin monk who leaves China and heads to New York to look after his nephew following the death of his brother. Once in the Big Apple, Li Long opens a martial arts school to make ends meet, but attracts the attention of the local mob and is forced to compete in illegal prize fights.

Zhang, who plays the lead role, is himself a former student of the Shaolin Temple in China. After studying since childhood, Zhang moved to Holland in his 20s, and began teaching martial arts there, before relocating to New York, which is now his home. He has been featured in martial arts magazines and a documentary on PBS in the States. The Last Kung Fu Monk is his directorial debut, and is out on DVD from High Fliers Films on 22 April 2013. Zhang's second film, the historical martial arts drama called The Resistance, will follow in June.
