Fly Penguin Closes Out The Year Of The 12 Directors

Thursday 27 December 2012 marks the final screening as part of the Korean Cultural Centre UK's year-long celebration of Korean cinema - The Year Of 12 Directors.

The last film on the bill is Yim Soon-rye's 2009 drama Fly Penguin starring Moon So-ri and Son Byung-ho.

The movie is a collection of stories looking at people who finds themselves at odds with the expectations of Korean society.

Seung-yun is stressed out because everyday after school he has to go for extra lessons at private academies to make sure he gets top grades. His mother is so concerned that he master the English language that at weekends he is not allowed to speak Korean at home.

Ju-hun is the new guy at his company but as a vegetarian who doesn't drink, he struggles to fit in with his sushi-loving, beer chugging co-workers.

Su-hyeong is successful in his career and has sent his wife and kids to live abroad to help the children learn English - but when he finally gets to see them again, they have grown apart.

The screening is free to attend but you must reserve a place in advance which you can do by visiting the KCCUK booking page.

Date: Thursday 27 December 2012, screening starts at 7.00PM

Venue:
The Korean Cultural Centre UK,
