The Japan Foundation Presents Once Upon A Time In Japan

The Japan Foundation's excellent Touring Film Programme returns in 2013 with a roster of great movies and anime travelling venues across the UK under the banner Once Upon A Time In Japan.

The list of movies in the programme is:
Zero Focus, United Red Army, The Blossoming of Etsuko Kamiya, Rebirth, Ninja Kids!!!, Mai Mai Miracle, Kaidan Horror Classics, Hula Girls, Castle Under Fiery Skies, Bubble Fiction: Boom or Bust.

Directed by Takashi Miike, Ninja Kids!!! is adapted from the Nintama Rantaro anime series about young ninjas in training.

The Blossoming of Etsuko Kamiya is a tragic love story set during World War II directed by Kazuo Kuroki who made the superb Roningai. Sadly Kuroki passed away in 2006 and this was to be his final film.

Kaidan Horror Classics is a collection of three stories by Shinya Tsukamoto, Sang-il Lee and Hirokazu Kore-eda.

For anime fans, the line up includes Sunao Katabuchi's Mai Mai Miracle about the friendship between two girls in 1950s rural Japan.
