The Embassy Of Japan Presents Kabei - Our Mother

The monthly film programme at the Embassy of Japan continues in March with a screening of Yoji Yamada's Kabei - Out Mother.

Yamada has directed over forty films in the long running Taro-san comedy series that was hugely popular in Japan, although he is better known in the West for his wonderful trilogy of unconventional samurai films, The Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade and Love And Honour.

Kabei - Our Mother was Yamada's 80th film as director and is set during World War II.

In 1940 Shigeru Nogami (Mitsugoro Bando) is a professor who criticizes Japan's imperial ambitions and is imprisoned for not supporting the war.

Shigeru's incarceration leaves his wife Kayo (Sayuri Yoshinaga), nicknamed Kabei, to survive on her own while bringing up their two daughters.

The screening takes place on Wednesday 20 March 2013 at 6.30PM

Doors open at 6.00PM. No admittance after 7.00PM.

The film is free to attend but you must book a place in advance, which you can do on the Embassy's website.

Venue: Embassy of Japan, 101-104 Piccadilly, London W1J 7JT
