Mystery: Infidelity and intrigue from Lou Ye

Lou Ye's drama Mystery snagged Best Film, Best Newcomer and Best Screenwriter at the Asian Film Awards this year, and is out now on DVD here in the UK.

The story takes place in Wuhan, a boom city where bored rich kids race their sports cars through the streets at night. Lu Jie (Hao Lei) and her husband Yangzhao (Qin Hao) live a comfortable middle class lifestyle, until Lu uncovers evidence that Yangzhao is living a double life, setting into motion a tale of jealousy and revenge. Back in 2003, Lou Ye directed the excellent thriller Purple Butterfly, but he fell afoul of China's censors in 2006 with Summer Palace, which led to a five-year ban from filmmaking. Undeterred, he made Spring Fever in 2009 without official approval, before shooting Love And Bruises in Paris, France in 2011. Now he's back on his home soil.

Mystery is on DVD now from Artificial Eye.
