R100

Japanese comedian and director Hitoshi Matsumoto was the brains behind the bizarre superhero pastiche Big Man Japan. His latest film R100 stars Nao Omori as Takafumi Katayama, an unassuming furniture salesman who is looking after his young son as his wife is in a coma. However, he has a secret hunger for humiliation so he decides to spice up his life by joining a club that promises to deliver S&M encounters with a range of dominatrixes. The catch is that membership lasts for one year, can’t be cancelled under any circumstances, and the dominatrixes can appear anywhere, without warning, to unleash their fury upon Katayama. Matsumoto’s twisted comedy takes its title from Japan’s film rating system suggesting that only people aged 100 and over should watch the movie. Nao Omori’s face will be familiar to fans of Ichi The Killer while the army of whip-wielding tormentors includes supermodel Ai Tominaga. R100 arrives on DVD on 15 September from Yume Pictures.
