Rurouni Kenshin 2: Kyoto Inferno

When Keishi Otomo’s big screen adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s manga Rurouni Kenshin was a smash hit in 2012, Warner Entertainment Japan decided to build on the film’s success with a mammoth two-part sequel. In Japan, the two movies were released in rapid succession – Kyoto Inferno opened on 1 August followed by The Legends Ends on 13 September. No word yet on when we might see the third film here in the UK, but Warner Bros. will release Kyoto Inferno in British cinemas on 21 November. Takeru Sato returns as the titular hero, a former assassin who has vowed to never kill again and now fights with a sword that is blunt on the outside edge. This time, Kenshin receives a desperate request from the authorities to help them stop the ruthless, disfigured swordsman Makoto Shishio (Tatsuya Fujiwara) and his legion of killers. Donnie Yen’s frequent collaborator Kenji Tanigaki handled the fight choreography and plenty of familiar faces return, including Emi Takei as love interest Kaoru and Yu Aoi as Megumi.
