Black Butler

Following their release of Rurouni Kenshin, Warner Brothers continues to bring Japanese live action movies to Britain with the release of Black Butler. Yana Toboso’s manga, adapted into an anime released here by Manga, chronicled the adventures of wealthy orphan Ciel Phantomhive and his devilishly clever butler Sebastian in Victorian England. Determined to find the person who murdered his parents, Ciel sells his soul to Sebastian in exchange for his servitude, but while Ciel’s quest continues, they work for the Queen to solve cases that have stumped the police. The movie is co-directed by Kei’ichi Sato, who helmed the Tiger & Bunny anime, and Kentaro Otani who previously brought shoujo manga Nana to the screen. The movies makes some major changes to the material, switching the setting to modern day Japan and exchanging Ciel Phantomhive for a 17-year-old girl called Shiori Genpo, played by Ayame Goriki, while Hiro Mizushima plays Sebastian. Expect a DVD release in 2015.
