His Butler, Acting

Released in Japan in January, the live action Black Butler movie is a very different take on the series. Abandoning 19th century England for 21st century Japan, it stars Hiro Mizushima (Beck, Absolute Boyfriend) as Sebastian, summoned by Ciel’s descendent Shiori (played by Gatchaman and Future Diary’s Ayame Gouriki) for another elaborate game of vengeance. According to the film’s producer, Shinjo Matsuhashi, the switch in time and location was so they could cast Japanese actors in the title roles. Co-directed by Kentaro Otani (Nana, Young Black Jack) and Keiichi Sato (Tiger & Bunny), the film sees Shiori forced to pretend to be male in order to maintain her control over the Phantomhive estate and company. Madman has already licensed the film for Australian release, meaning UK compatible Blu-ray masters will exist, and Warner Bros. has passed it through the BBFC for cinema certification. We’d say there’s a pretty high chance you’ll be seeing more of this strange Black Butler serving the UK soon!
