Ayumi Hamasaki's Evolution Picked For Helter Skelter Theme

Ayumi Hamasaki's 2001 hit Evolution has been chosen as the theme song for the upcoming live action adaptation of Helter Skelter.

When first released the song topped the Oricon charts and no doubt it will enjoy a new lease of life when the film opens. You can hear Ayumi sing Evolution by clicking here.

The original manga by Kyoko Okazaki chronicles the mental deterioration of Ririko, a successful model who, despite numerous operations to perfect her appearance, believes she is losing her good looks.

Erika Sawajiri, who you may have seen in Shinobi: Heart Under Blade, plays Ririko.

The manga was well received, winning the Grand Prize at the Tezuka Cultural Award in 2004 and being an Official Selection at the Angouleme International Comics Festival in France in 2008.

Mika Ninagawa, who previously helmed the sumptuous Sakuran starring Anna Tsuchiya, is directing the adaptation.

The movie will open in Japan on 14 July and you can see the teaser trailer below. There is an official website but as is all too often the case with Japanese films, it is only in Japanese.
