Second Run Announces Mundane History

Second Run DVD has announced the upcoming release of Thai director Anocha Suwichakornpong's debut feature film, Mundane History on 22 October 2012.

Suwichakornpong's ethereal first film has been widely praised one of the most startling and original feature debuts of recent years.

The movie won the VPRO Tiger Award at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Grand Prix at Era New Horizons International Film Festival and the Best Director Award at the Mumbai Film Festival.

The story of a paralyzed son, his elusive father, and the male nurse hired to take care of the wheelchair-bound patient parallels the emotional dynamic of a single home with the tumult of an entire country.

The film gradually expands outwards to morph into a philosophical and hallucinogenic meditation about our place in the universe. A film as beautiful, strange and as mysterious as life itself.

The Hollywood Reporter called it, "A simple, yet abstract film with a mesmerizing aura", while the Edinburgh Film Festival said, "Thai cinema continues to come of age with this starling debut... simply spellbinding."

Here is the trailer. If you think Thai cinema is nothing but bone-crunching Muay Thai movies, you're in for a surprise.
