Chow Yun-Fat Is The Last Tycoon

Chow Yun-Fat is back in the underworld in Wong Jing's The Last Tycoon.

The film comes out in China in December and co-stars Sammo Hung, Huang Xiaoming, Francis Ng and Tong Fei.

Director Wong Jing is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hong Kong, even if the quality of his output can vary considerably.

He helped launch of gambling movies in the late 80s and early 90s with Chow Yun-Fat in God Of Gamblers and the several sequels that followed.

He has worked with Stephen Chow several times but his collaboration with Jackie Chan, an adaptation of the City Hunter manga, is decidedly patchy.

Many of his biggest hits have been comedies, so it will be interesting to see how he handles a gangland drama with a big name cast like this.

Chow plays Du Yuesheng, a real life crime boss who lived in Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s.

The movie will be the first time Chow and Sammo Hung have worked together on screen, despite both having long and successful careers in Hong Kong cinema.

Opening in December means that The Last Tycoon will be up against Jackie Chan's CZ12 and Feng Xiaogang's Back To 1942 in cinemas.

Chow previously cleaned up at the Chinese box office with Let The Bullets Fly, which was released here in the UK by Metrodome.
