Trailer For Takashi Miike's Musical Ai To Makoto

Does Takashi Miike ever sleep? Judging by the rate at which he makes movies, probably not. Coming out this year here in the UK you can look forward to Crows Zero, Crows Zero II, Yatterman and Hara-Kiri: Death Of A Samurai.

Over in Japan, Miike has been busy with an adaptation of Ace Attorney (yes, the video game) and now an adaptation of Ai To Makoto.

Based on Ikki Kajiwara's manga Ai To Makoto, or The Legend Of Love And Sincerity, is a musical set in a high school about the relationship between a sweet and innocent girl and a tough delinquent.

Emi Takei, who is also in the forthcoming adaptation of Samurai X, plays the good girl, Ai Saotome. Opposite her will be Satoshi Tsumabuki as troubled teen Makoto Taiga (despite the fact that Tsumabaki is actually 30!) Tsumabaki's previous credits include Villain and Dororo both of which have been released in the UK.

The trailer makes it look like a cross between Disney's High School Musical and Crows Zero. That's either a recipe for disaster or total awesomeness.

The film opens in Japan on 16 June.
