Himizu Opens In Cinemas Today

Okay, so we can't figure out a way to link this to the Jubilee, but Sion Sono's Himizu opens in cinemas today.

The typically dark story follows two teenagers, Yuichi Sumida (Shota Sometani) and Keiko Chazawa (Fumi Nikaido), who have to cope with parents that are either dismissive or even abusive.

All Yuichi wants is to live a normal, quiet life but his father has gambling debts and the yakuza out to collect them decide that Yuichi should pay them in his father's stead. Pushed to breaking point, Yuichi finally snaps. Is a normal life too much to ask for?

The film is playing at select cinemas across the UK including:
The ICA, London
The Prince Charles Cinema, London (Aha! There's the link to the Queen! Sorted!)
The Renoir, London
The Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales
The Duke Of Yorks, Brighton
Riverside Studios, Hammersmith
Eden Court Cinema, Inverness

In Ireland:
The Irish Film Institute, Dublin
