The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Even we have to admit that we weren't the biggest fans of the graphical style of the original Wind Waker on GameCube; however, thanks to the new lick of paint that it's received in this Wii U remastering, we've finally been won over - The Wind Waker HD is about as close as you can get to a cartoon coming to life.

As well as touching up the look of the game, Nintendo have also done a good job making it compatible with the Wii U's GamePad; managing items and maps on the fly is an obvious though useful addition, and the ability to use its gyroscope functionality to aim weapons and take photos is a neat touch. Pacing issues from the original have been improved, though not eradicated: the swift sail, for example, gives your boat an extra boost, but it can still take a little too long to get from place to place; similarly, the dreaded Triforce shard hunt has been shortened, but still dragged for us.

Despite these minor complaints, for fans of the original game - or, indeed, anyone who has yet to experience their first trip to Hyrule - The Wind Waker HD should not be missed.

Although not all of the original game's issues have been solved, this beautiful HD remake is still one of video gaming's shining examples of action adventure game design.
