5 Best Punisher Moments: #4

Not fighting back against Captain America because he has too much respect

We’ve established that Frank Castle is a badass. Such a badass, in fact, that he’ll walk into a polar bear enclosure at a zoo and punch a bear square in the face. Which means he’s not afraid of punching anything in the face.

So why wouldn’t he punch Captain America, even after Cap spent ten minutes beating the hell out of him in a bout of Super Serum roid rage?

Because he had too much respect for him.

It was the midst of Marvel’s Civil War storyline. Captain America had grudgingly accepted Punisher on his side and, long story short, Castle killed two supervillains against his wishes, so Cap went nuts and started waling on him.

He beat him from one side of the room to the other, kicking him in the face, smashing his nose with punches and knees, even battering him with his shield. But the Punisher refused to fight back.

That’s because to Frank Castle, the Vietnam veteran, Steve Rogers the World War II veteran was the embodiment of what a soldier should be. He was his role model. His icon. The reason he enlisted in the first place.

And whatever his cold-hearted killing does or doesn’t say about his sense of honour, Frank Castle simply had too much honour to raise his fists to Steve Rogers.
