Japan Rising New Music Showcase

Three of Japan’s hottest new music talents have been selected to fly over to the United Kingdom and represent their country this May. One of the three has featured in NEO recently; the delightfully quirky J-pop band PASSEPIED (interviewed in NEO 132), who are label mates with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. They’ll be joined by male-female pop duo Moumoon and electronic experimentalist Yosi Horikawa for a very special showcase entitled Japan Rising, taking place at this year’s Great Escape Festival in Brighton on Saturday 16 May.

Don’t worry if you won’t be attending the Great Escape, there’s still a chance to see PASSEPIED and Moumoon without a festival pass. The bands will be teaming up and heading to The Pipeline in London on Wednesday 13 May for a warm-up show, organised by Japan Underground.

Moumoon have had several songs in anime, including One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal, and their biggest hit Sunshine Girl even managed to make it into the top ten. Check it out on YouTube! Fans of Spotify should also be pleased to know that PASSEPIED and Yosi Horikawa have their catalogues available for streaming too.
