
The Brewery Arts Centre Presents Bunkasai In July
In July the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, Cumbria plays host to Bunkasai, a festival of Japanese culture that celebrates manga, anime, food and movies with workshops and exhibitions galore.
The exhibitions include:
Takao Saito Exhibition - 9 July to 3 September
Venue: Sugar Store Gallery, admission: free
The mangaka behind Golgo 13 and Shadow Hunters is the subject of a major retrospective with many original drawings and prints on display.
Kayo Nakamura: Manga for Lakeland - 9 to 16 July
Venue: Warehouse Café, admission: free
Emerging manga artist, Kayo Nakamura, is working with the Brewery to create a brand new Manga graphic novel inspired by the Lake District. During her residency, Kayo will explore the famous and not so well-known parts of Cumbria seeking inspiration for her novel which will be published via the Brewery website in September 2012.
From 8 to 15 July there will be screenings of anime and Japanese movies, including Howl's Moving Castle, Arrietty, Akira, Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi and Battle Royale in addition to Audition and 13 Assassins from Takashi Miike.
There will also be a special screening of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star Of Milos on Friday 13 July. You can check out the full list of films and book tickets on the Brewery's website movie page.
