Any other Japanese bands that have been well promoted are...errr...dir en grey and mucc. Other than that, it really is all about the digging and searching X3
We only found out about Maximum the Hormone by one heck of a big chance of me looking at an Enter Shikari tour advert in Kerrang lol
Hehe, weeeelll, with MtH, that's their own fault - they really aren't into doing press in Europe. We were arranging an interview with them about supporting Enter Shikari, which was declined at the last minute - arfff... Anyway, I've just received a super top secret schedule for 2010 - and it's looking pretty darn fantastic ... that is, if you live in London ;P

Unhappy

Okay, I just looked on the official Asakusa Jinta myspace and they have no shows in Brighton listed, only London, Birmingham and Japan!
Really?!
No show now?

I hate how Japanese bands only play London when they come to the UK because I can never afford to go T_T I'd have to pay for trains (£30-ish) Gig tickets (£20-ish) and then for a hotel or something (£LOTS) because I wouldn't want to miss any of the show because I had to leave to get the train home. And as a lowly student, I just can't afford that for one night of musical bliss.

I'm thinking of running a sort of 'capaign' to make sure abingdon boys school have more than one show next time they come to the UK and hopefully that they play more than just London.

I like seeing bands in Birmingham, Nottingham, Shaeffield and Leicster (at the De Montfort Hall it's sooooo nice for gigs <3)

Unfortunately it's all a numbers game. A band that have never toured the UK before and has no real fan base here has to try and maximise it's revenue through tickets sales. This means playing to the most people possible and that usually means just the big cities or often just London. They may get only 1 person in 10,000 wanting to see them which means in places like Bristol, only around 40 compared with a possible 800 for London. I admit I'm pulling these figures out of the air but it's roughly how it works.

And most gigs are 18+ as the venue makes most of it's money though the sale of booze, hence why there are so few under 18 gigs, for many bands in smaller venues.

MiNGLED has it right - sadly, there's just not enough people willing to turn up and buy tickets outside of London. The next biggest showing is in Birmingham but even then, the artists play in much smaller venues than they do in the capital. And even in the capital, there's no guarantee of huge crowds - when Tom Smith <NEO's friendly music maestro!> and I went to see MUCC, the turn out was miserable, so you can understand why they bands are reluctant to cool other British cities!

That was the worst turn out I've ever seen though - I blame Mr. Miyavi personally for selling out the venue only a week or so earlier and thus taking any cash J-rock fans in the UK had in the process.
